Confined Space Training

Safe working in confined spaces  (Without Breathing Apparatus)

Through the combination of theory and practical training, this course provides participants with the necessary knowledge and skills required to safely work in Confined Spaces as per the National Training Package RII09 Resources and Infrastructure and meets the requirements of AS2865-2009. This course will also provide participants with information relative to Legislation, Regulations and Codes of Practice for Confined Spaces.  A nationally recognised competency is awarded on successful completion of this course. 

Definition of a Confined Space

 AS2865-2009 defines a confined space as: 

1    Enclosed or partially enclosed spaces that may meet the definition criteria for a confined space are:

(a)     storage tanks, tank cars, process vessels, boilers, pressure vessels, silos and other tank-like compartments:
(b)     pipes, sewers, shafts, degreaser and sullage pits, ducts and similar structures; and
(c)     any shipboard spaces entered through a small hatchway or entry point, cargo tanks, cellular double bottom tanks, duct keels, ballast and oil tanks and void space
 

Course Outline                                                                                                                                                              

  •  Confined space identification 
  •  Hazard identification and control of risks
  •  Use of atmospheric testing equipment and monitoring of atmospheric conditions
  •  Use and maintenance of harnesses and straps
  •  Use of tripods, winches and fall protective equipment
  •  Care of equipment
  •  Safety and emergency procedures
  •  Identification and use of rescue equipment 
  •  Confined space work permits and entry procedures
  •  Work in accordance with a written authority (entry permit)

Resources

Koolat Safety has access to all physical resources required to facilitate the course including a purpose built confined space structure enabling us to conduct practical exercises.  Training and assessment can be conducted at the client site providing adequate resources are available.  In any case, a pre-training evaluation of resources will be conducted. Students are supplied with all required theory resources.

On successful completion participants receive a Statement of Attainment and a photographic identification card.  The issuance of the ID card enables participants to carry proof of their training which will includes the information included on the Statement of Attainment.
